My initial idea was to paint a
girl surrounded by flowers. I wanted to paint a brown girl calmly seated around
nature and flowers. I also wanted the piece to have a very organic feel.

I didn't know how the painting
was going to turn out. I was using so many references and that was already a
risk.
I found myself struggling with
certain parts of the image especially the head. The scale wasn't just right. I
kept going back and forth but it wasn't adding up so I decided to give the
piece a rest. I covered it and didn't look at it for weeks.

Painting in parts hence giving me ability to study each area without being overwhelmed by the whole painting. I finally managed to fix my proportions and got pass the block. After this everything went smoothly, the only challenge I had was to push myself through the painting process. I went at it daily, painting her face, arms, flowers and her background.
It was a pleasant surprise and I
loved how everything came together.

LESSON LEARNED
The few lessons learned from
creating this piece is the fact that I didn't quit. Even though the painting
felt like a struggle from get go.
This piece taught me to keep
pushing and never stop creating no matter how long it may take.
